Tea mug - diy

Sometimes you can never find the slogan that says exactly what you want it to say. When that happens simply make it yourself - I did and I think I got my slogan just right if I do say so myself. There are many craft diys out there for Sharpie crockery and whilst I love my Sharpie and use it in many crafts I found that the crockery ones did not have as long a life span as using the ceramic pens and there was no price difference. There are many place to buy ceramic pens online but I bought a really nice pack of 5 pearlised colours from here for £9.99

you will need;

a ceramic pen/pens
a mug or cup of choice
a hot oven

method;
  1. Decide on the design or words you want to write on your mug or mugs if you want. Sketch out a few ideas. If you are writing think about how you want the words to sit. Think about which side of the mug will be seen. Is the person you are making this for right or left handed. This may alter the design.
  2. Make sure the crockery is clean and thoroughly dry and cold.
  3. Copy your design onto your mug. Don't worry if you make a mistake you can wash it off and start again until you have baked it. This is why I said the mug should be cold. If you wrote on the mug when it was straight out of the dishwasher the residual heat would start to cure the pen.
  4. When you are happy with your design you are ready to bake it. Be sure to follow the instructions that are your pens exactly as different manufactures may differ slightly.
My pens asked me to turn the oven off after the request time and allow the mug to cool in the oven. This is a great idea regardless as it allows your mug to cool slowly and will have less chance of cracking.

I hope you have fun planning designs and making personal gifts for people.

Take care
