I was so happy when I read the post that Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky. For so long I have been annoyed at the increasing attitude that to be a feminist you have to emulate men. Doesn't make sense when you put it in plain terms like that does it? For the past 13 years I have been part of the working world and in that time I have had to combat being young, something time happily fixed for me, but for the most part how I choose to be a woman.
I enjoy to wear skirts, I like cute things. I enjoy cooking, sewing and playing with small children, I coo at babies. I also have a strong business mind, a Masters education, I am smart savvy and independent. Yet time after time I get judged for being girly, I also enjoy graphic novels, anime and computer games but that is brushed over.
No woman should be looked at as if she is setting the women's movement back if she wears make up, a pink dress and eats cupcakes. We are individuals and should embrace that and not ever feel forced to behave in a way un-natural to ourselves to please others or prove one's self. Therefore the point should also be made that women should not dumb themselves down, or dress a certain way for the sole purpose of pleasing a man. Always be true to yourself. Please read the post written by Elizabeth that is highlighted in green above, she makes amazing points, articulated well and I am so glad she wrote it!
